2006 Children's Wish Ride

In 2006 the Victoria Beach Police wanted to do something significant for the community so we decided to team up with the Winnipeg Police Bicycle Relay team and Childrens Wish Foundation. Our focus was to fund raise and then ride our bicycles 130 kms from Victoria Beach to Winnipeg.

Why bicycles? becuase we ride on patrol all summer long. Why Childrens Wish? becuase we are so fortunate to have our health and some children are robbed of their childhood due to illness. We felt it paramount to give something to one of them. Our 2006 child was "stormy" STEVENSON.s 5yr old girl, who has endured much pain and hardship due to her illness which has required her to undergo 15 major operations since birth. When asked as to the long range prognosis for Stormy. mom replied... "it's like running a race.... one hurdle at a time. Every time we fix one problem, another one looms in the distance."

The Victoria Beach Police raised $13,500.00 that first year.

2007 Children's Wish Ride

(Jonathan escorting runner at Funrun)

2006 was a ride for VB police officers only, but in 2007 we partnered with Winnipeg Police Service bicycle riders.

On 2007-August-09 the "klicks for Kids" ride took place. Our "Wish Child" was 4 year old Tyler RISLUND from East Selkirk. Tyler had already undergone 8 major heart surgeries to date and still has more in the near future. Tyler's wish was to go to Disney World with his parents. Tyler's father, James, wanted to ride with us for his son, and rode the distance on an old Sekine road bike. James was very tired at the end of the ride, but we were all very proud of him.

We ended our ride at the Fork's in Winnipeg where we presented the Children's Wish Foundation with a cheque for $10,000.00.

2008 Children's Wish Ride

On 2008 July-23rd Victoria Beach Police rode again to Winnipeg to raise money for the Children's Wish Foundation. This year we rode for Kayla HODGINS who suffers from cystic fibrosis. Kayla and her sister went to Disney World with her parents and grandparents.

Anyone wishing to make a donation/ pledge for next year can do so by contacting either the children's Wish Foundation or the Victoria Beach Police.
